Goals
ToNoWaste aims to provide data and tools based on science and evidence that allow selecting the most appropriate food loss and waste reduction strategies to contribute to building new circular economy models in the agri-food sector.
How is it achieved?
ToNoWaste is a multi-stakeholder and interdisciplinary project involving transversal research areas such as data science, psychology, law and social innovation.
The project is based on a previous research question, what does it mean to make the best decision regarding waste prevention actions in the fresh food value chain. To this end, an open innovation ecosystem will be built to take advantage of previous findings that allow the identification of social, technical/environmental, economic, political/legal, ethical and demographic drivers and the collaboration with other ongoing R&D actions to identify and propose comprehensive solutions to reduce food loss and waste.
What was our contribution?
The University of Deusto will contribute to the development of a comprehensive methodology for the analysis of food loss and waste based on data management through two main research areas: I) methodologies for the development of circular economy approaches (diagnosis methodologies, co-creation, etc), and II) exploitation of massive data using big data and artificial intelligence techniques.
The necessary data will be managed through an open tool based on the previous developments of the Waste4Think and FOODRUS projects coordinated by Deusto, which will allow the different agents involved to access and interact.
