The project will develop a novel model approach based on a stack of energy models. On the upper layer EU-wide macro-economic models will provide the boundary conditions of the economic and energy systems with a low time and geographic resolution (yearly and Member States level). This information will be then used by the second layer models to provide a more comprehensive assessment on smaller areas (hourly and NUTS2 level) taking into consideration engineering models for different energy generation solutions and a comprehensive list of energy consumers. Finally, the third layer will use these models to assess use cases of interest: the interconnection of the Baltic see, the integration of the grid between Greece and Bulgaria, the integration of Ukrainian in the UE energy system and the assessment of two industrial clusters, Euskadi and Lombardi.

Deusto will carry on three main task in this project. On the one hand, Deusto will develop a set of models to simulate the energy consumption, emissions and material needs of different industries. This will be used on our second task to carry out the assessment of Euskadi industrial cluster trying to identify potencial solutions to foster the circularity of energy and materials in the industrial sector in Euskadi. Finally, Deusto will be responsible to carry define and include an ethical perspective on the models developed.
