Erick Rodríguez-Esparza is a Research Associate at the Deusto Smart Mobility group, part of the DeustoTech Technological Institute at the University of Deusto (Spain). He holds a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí (2018, Mexico) and a Master’s degree in Electronic and Computer Engineering from the University of Guadalajara (2020, Mexico). In 2024, he earned a Ph.D. with international distinction after defending his dissertation titled: «Novel Optimization Methods and Model for Improving Sustainability and Efficiency in Last-Mile Logistics» at the University of Deusto.
His main research areas include image processing, metaheuristic optimization algorithms, machine learning, and deep learning, applied to real-world problems. He is currently involved in the European project SYNCHROMODE, funded by Horizon Europe (2023–2026), where he develops optimization methods to enhance the integrated management of transportation networks from a multimodal perspective.
