    Doctor in Charge

Alberto Murillo is an Industrial Engineer, holds a PhD from the University of Deusto and is qualified as a University Expert in Theory and Application of Finite Element Analysis by UNED. Dr. Alberto Murillo has focused his research on the simulation of manufacturing processes by means of FEM tools and on the numerical and experimental characterisation of the behaviour of metallic alloys at high temperature, as well as the evaluation of contact conditions and tribological behaviour. After completing his doctoral thesis research on seamless tube piercing, his field of interest has also focused on friction stir welding, semi-solid forming and near-solidus forming (NSF) processes. He is currently leading projects focused on energy reduction and sustainability improvement of metal forming processes through the application of NSF, as well as the reduction of forming temperature in large components for the wind energy sector. Another of the research topics that it has recently begun to explore is the development of new technologies for the direct recycling of metal swarf through the Thermal-Close-Die-Extrusion (TCX) method. The quality of his research and its dissemination is endorsed by his 18 JCR publications, three book chapters, and 8 papers in international conferences. He has also participated in several research projects: 1 project funded by the EU, 1 project funded by the Carbon Trust, 8 competitive research projects at regional level and numerous privately funded projects with the aim of transferring knowledge to companies in the metal forming sector.
