    Itoro Afolayan, Blessing
    Research Assistant

Blessing holds a bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics, which ignited her passion for tackling challenges and striving for excellence. She was awarded scholarships by Google and Facebook to pursue a Master's in Mathematical Sciences at AIMS Cameroon (2019) and a postgraduate program in Machine Learning at the African Masters in Machine Intelligence (AMMI) in Ghana (2021).

Her commitment to solving real-world problems led her to collaborate with researchers and professors both locally and internationally. In South Korea (2020-2021), she assisted farmers by designing a machine learning-based sensor clustering system for efficient and cost-effective monitoring. In Nigeria (2021-2022), she contributed to the healthcare sector by applying data-driven methodologies to accelerate medical discoveries at 54gene, a genomics startup aiming to bridge the gap in global genomics research.

In the United States (2021), Blessing worked as a scientific researcher in image and text data analysis at Carnegie Mellon University. Her interest in AI applications led her to join DeustoTech (2023), the research institute of the School of Engineering, where she focuses on route and service optimization and traffic prediction. She has been awarded a pre-doctoral research fellowship by the Deusto for Knowledge (D4K) team, and her doctoral research will apply generative AI techniques to address complex optimization problems with costly or limited data evaluations.
