Deusto Technology Institute (DeustoTech), based in Bilbao, is a new technology research institute belonging to the University of Deusto (UD), created with the aim of generating and transferring knowledge to society and business and support the University through research, development and innovation in the field of Information and Communication Technologies and addressing the ethical and humanist principles that define UD’s University Project.

Profile

We seek a person with a strong research career in DeustoTech’s research areas, with proven experience in generating business opportunities at a European level mainly through access to the European Commission’s grants for R&D projects, and managing such projects during their technical and administrative implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Technical design of projects based on DeustoTech’s ICT research areas.
  • Attract projects in highly competitive H2020 programmes in ICT and other areas related to DeustoTech's areas of knowledge.
  • Assist the Unit's head in defining the strategy for attracting international projects.
  • Coordinate regional, national and particularly European projects.
  • Transfer to business. Support the organisation in the promotion of research and project outcomes and their exploitation by industry and local governments.

Requirements

  • Phd degree.
  • List of publications in impact journals in relevant positions in his/her field.
  • At least 3 years’ research experience following PhD degree award.
  • Proficiency in English (C1); knowledge of other languages would be an asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of the various R&D grant calls and programmes.
  • Having an outstanding network of European contacts and a capacity to establish research partnerships.
  • Proven results for attracting European projects and a career in project leadership.
  • Understand market and technology trends.
  • Capacity to identify market opportunities and/or gaps and state-of-the art or technical opportunities.
  • Previous experience as an adviser and/or evaluator of H2020 proposals would be an advantage.
  • We seek a person with a sense of responsibility, professional competence, business orientation, empathy, capacity for teamwork and a capacity to adapt and identify with the University of Deusto's mission and identity.

Job Summary

The European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant “DYCON – Dynamic Control”, coordinated by Enrique Zuazua at DeustoTech (University of Deusto, Bilbao – Basque Country – Spain), aims to develop a multifold research agenda in the broad area of Control of Partial Differential Equations (PDE) and their numerical approximation methods to contribute with new key theoretical methods and results, and to develop the corresponding computational software. This project identifies six key topics:

  • control of parameter dependent problems;
  • long finite time horizon control;
  • control under constraints;
  • inverse design of time-irreversible models;
  • memory models and hybrid PDE/ODE models,
  • and the links between finite and infinite-dimensional dynamical systems.

The chosen postdoc researcher will carry out mathematical and/or computational research on some of the main scientific priorities of DYCON in a multidisciplinary and international environment with excellent facilities.

The research proposed will focus on the simulation and mobile platform implementation of Bayes rule based systems for seamless assets localization, tracking, and mapping by fusing the information coming from heterogeneous but standardized technologies.

The latest challenge in localization, tracking, and mapping is not to design specialized sensors for these tasks but to design and implement data fusion methods using the already available technologies. Data fusion in localization, tracking, and mapping is a key element for further advances of the field and presents exciting challenges for signal processing practitioners and researchers.

Advanced command of English (C1 or equivalent) is desired. To be eligible, candidates must be full-time and physically present at the DeustoTech's premises. All qualified candidates will be considered.

Specific requirements

Offer summary

The offer is negotiable based on the candidate skills and expertise. The offer would have a duration of 3 years. It requires annual renewal. Renewal is contingent on achieving the research objectives established at the beginning of each year.
